Happy Holidays!

This has been a great year of learning, entry into great shows, the time to meet and enjoy other artists and it has also given me a wonderful end with two of my colored pencil pieces in publication! I had been wondering about my abilities in the color pencil medium for some time now and was thinking maybe this is not a medium I can do.  However, with these two publications - I feel so inspired and ready to make more art in this under-appreciated medium.   "El Jardin Hermoso" is in the Ann Kullberg's Colored Pencil Magazine for December 2013 and "Life Is But a Dream" made it into "Colored Pencil Treasury II".

I'm so thrilled and humbled to be a part of both publications.  There are so many incredible artists out there and meeting a lot of them has been a real pleasure for me this year!

I'm taking the rest of the year off to make a lot of art for a couple of Secret Santas and also to trade in ArtZona in January 2014!  3-D Steampunk hearts, Calavera Ladies, Big Lebowski cards, Styled Hearts, Contemporary Author Portraits, Lovebird Couples, and so much more...  I feel like an art elf painting up a storm!  I hope to post some photos later as I get close to completing everything.

Meanwhile, I've been thinking and reading about the artist Piet Mondrian, he of the primary colored rectangles & squares. I even had a Mondrian dress with white go go boots when I was a kid.  But, I am thinking of his work when he was a very young man. He was into a theosophy of finding a profound spirituality in nature and furthered his own aesthetic with this influence in seeking to disclose the concealed essence of reality. "I too find flowers beautiful in their exterior beauty, " he wrote, "yet, there is hidden within a deeper beauty".  With this in mind, I have some ideas about what my next watercolor piece will be. I'm in the sketching phase right now, but in my mind - I'm figuring out how I'll paint it.  I hope by the time I get to actually painting it, it will just easily flow.

May you all have a joyous holiday season!
