Koi Pond

Last month on Valinetine's Day, I went up to Encinitas to Swamis and used my new Canon to photograph the beautiful meditation garden overlooking the Pacific. This painting is done from a photograph I took capturing the ephemeral beauty of the fish, the motion of the water, and the reflected trees, sky and shadows above. This representational piece is done in colored pencils which are heated to blend and burnish on the Icarus board. The colored pencils get used up quickly, but the effect is really nice. I could have worked on this piece even more and thought about adding some turquoise between the fish scales for the fish on the lower right but then that probably would have required more additions to the other fish. So, it was time to declare this piece complete.
Next week, my husband & I are driving up to the Anza Borrega Desert so I can play with my camera again and take pictures of the flowering desert. With all the rain this past winter, it should be gorgeous!
I realize that I need about two more pieces using the same medium to go with the three I have in my possession inorder to enter a gallery this April in Old Town. All my pet & people portraits, excepting my mom's portrait, do not count. I hope I can get it done and have them all framed and ready when the time comes!
